While rosé production has not been a “standard” for the Johan repertoire, 2020 presented the opportunity to make the Austrian-inspired rosé we have dreamt of since grafting the varieties into the vineyard. It turned out so great that we have continued to play and experiment to make a textural and compelling rosé, each year a little different from the last.

The 2022 Disco Chicken Rosé is a blend of St. Laurent (44%), Kerner (17%), Zweigelt (11%), Pinot Gris (11%), Blaufränkisch (11%), Pinot Noir (6%). All red varieties were harvested, soaked on skins for a few hours and direct pressed–with the addition of Kerner berries floating in the juice during fermentation for a textural and floral pop to the wine. The finished wine is bright and focused, with beautiful acidity and crunchy red fruit.
